School-Parent Compact

A School-Parent Compact for Student Achievement is an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all our students reach grade-level standards.

Effective compacts:

• Link to goals of the school improvement plan
• Focus on student learning skills
• Describe how teachers will help students develop those skills using high-quality instruction
• Share strategies parents can use at home
• Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress

The parents, students, and staff of Wesley Lakes Elementary developed this School-Parent Compact for Achievement. Teachers suggested home learning strategies, parents added ideas to make them more specific, and students told us what would help them learn. Meetings are held each year to review the Compact and make changes based on student needs. Parents are welcome to provide feedback on the compact at any time.

*Parents are encouraged to volunteer, observe and/or participate in the classroom. For safety reasons, a volunteer form must be on file to observe or volunteer in the classroom.

• We will advance opportunities, access, and outcomes for every student group in Literacy Proficiency at every grade.
• We will advance opportunities, access, and outcomes for every student group in Readiness to Learn at every level.
• We will advance opportunities, access, and outcomes for every student group in College, Career, & Life Ready Skills - post graduation.

• WLE will increase the percentage of 1st grade students reading on or above grade level from 42% to 45%.
• WLE will increase the percentage of 3rd grade students reading on or above grade level from 44% to 47%.
• WLE will increase the percentage of 5th grade students scoring proficient or distinguished in mathematics on the 2025 Georgia Milestones End of Grade Assessment from 18% to 21%.

Wesley Lakes Elementary provides multiple opportunities for parents and students to collaborate with our faculty and staff. Wesley Lakes Elementary School is committed to frequent two-way communication with families about children’s learning. Some of the ways you can expect us to reach you are:

• Provide lists of vocabulary words with information on how to use these words in writing. Encouraging students to write their own personal flash cards, they are able to practice writing and seeing the words.
• Provide reading lists of books to parents that are good for students to read with activities for student responses.
• Provide homework activities that allow for parent participation to support student’s understanding of mathematics.
• Plan for curriculum nights and family fun nights that celebrate learning and provide information.

• Play vocabulary games using the provided list of words. Find ways for my child to use new vocabulary words in everyday conversation.
• Help my child in selecting books to build vocabulary. Talk to my child about what he/she reads and check for understanding. Based on meetings with teachers, I am aware of my child's reading level and can pick books based on that level.
• Play math games with my child at home to instill a love of mathematics, and ask my child’s teacher questions when we need help at home.
• Attend family fun nights and curriculum nights.

• Use flashcards to help find the new vocabulary words in books that I read.
• Practice reading my leveled books for 20 minutes a day.
• Bring home and complete homework, talk with my parents about what I am learning at school, and ask questions when I do not understand
• Bring home our school newsletter and notices about Family Engagement Activities, curriculum and family fun nights.
