Henry County Board of Education Approves Appointment of Dr. Jamilla S. Martin as New Principal of Wesley Lakes Elementary School

HENRY COUNTY, GA – The Henry County Board of Education approved Dr. Jamilla S. Martin as the new principal of Wesley Lakes Elementary School during its Sept. 8 business meeting.

Dr. Martin brings approximately 15 years of classroom and leadership experience to advancing instructional and operational excellence at Wesley Lakes Elementary.

Her background in education includes previous roles in Henry County Schools, serving as an English instructor and later as an instruction and personalized learning lead at Dutchtown High School, and as an instructional lead teacher and literacy coach at McDonough High School.

Most recently, Dr. Martin served as assistant principal of Dutchtown High School for the last four years.

“I am truly honored to lead Wesley Lakes Elementary and serve the McDonough Cluster,” Dr. Martin said. “Wesley Lakes has a strong foundation and proud community spirit, making it a special place for students to learn and grow. Together with teachers, families, and community partners, we will provide every child with opportunities to thrive and continue defining excellence.”

Dr. Martin holds multiple certifications that reflect a commitment to teaching and leadership excellence, including a Bachelor of Arts in English education and a Master of Science in secondary English education from Alcorn State University, an Education Specialist degree in educational leadership from Mississippi College, and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership from William Carey University.

Her impact extends beyond the classroom to supporting school leaders in developing and implementing continuous improvement processes and strategies designed to enhance student achievement.

“Dr. Martin is an innovative educator dedicated to helping students and her colleagues succeed,” said Assistant Superintendent Nicole Shaw. “Throughout her career, she has remained active in professional development opportunities and districtwide initiatives, consistently seeking ways to support her peers and enhance student outcomes. We look forward to the positive impact she will make on the Wesley Lakes community.”

“Dr. Martin is a proven leader whose experience, vision, and dedication to students make her an outstanding choice for principal of Wesley Lakes Elementary School,” added Superintendent Dr. John Pace III. “Her ability to strengthen instruction and foster collaboration will continue to move the school forward and ensure a bright future for every student.”

Dr. Martin began her new role as principal of Wesley Lakes Elementary School on Sept. 22.
